The Jimmy V Classic starts tonight at 7 with the first matchup being between the undefeated Pitt Panthers against the 7-2 Cincinnati Bearcats on ESPN. Pitt has not been tested much but has played some power conference schools including Stanford, Penn State, and Texas Tech, but their first real test will certainly be tonight against the usually physical Bearcats, which does not work with the new rules. Cincinnati has lost two in a row against two quality opponents in New Mexico and Xavier, but they also do not have a signature non-conference win. Pitt is lead by Lamar Patterson and the Bearcats are lead by Sean Kilpatrick who is averaging almost 20 a game. Pitt has been putting the ball in the hoop to start this season, ranking 31st in PPG and 26th in field goal percentage and I like them to stay undefeated tonight.
The second game of the Jimmy V Classic is between the 7-2 Florida Gators and the 7-1 Memphis Tigers. I'll say it right now: I like Florida a lot and I do not like Memphis (partly because of Kuran Iverson). Florida will bang down low with Patric Young, has extremely talented guard play in Wilbiken and Hill, and has athletic wings including Finney-Smith, Yuguete, and Prather. Billy Donovan has this team extremely patient on the offensive end, and they already know how to play against very talented teams, including Wisconsin, UCONN, and Kansas. Memphis, on the other hand, has one of the best backcourts in the nation in Joe Jackson and Michael Dixon. But, they're young, and young usually does not work against a Billy Donovan team, especially one who is this talented and experienced. Florida wins.
Lastly, at 7 on ESPN2, there is s 1-2 matchup in the world of women's college basketball between UCONN and Duke. Duke is riding a 24 game home winning streak into this game, with the last loss coming at the hands of Geno and the huskies. The huskies are returning star player and elite scorer Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis and guard Morgan Tuck, both of which provide an extreme boost for this already really talented team. UCONN wins easy.
PS- try not to tear up
