The Top 5 Sport Video Game Soundtracks for Your Weekend Playlist

It's Saturday morning here in CT, meaning the weekend has arrived so it's time to drink! But who likes to drink without some music playing in the background to drown out the terrible awkwardness of small talk until everyone has reached their fifth beer or shot. So here's the top 5 sport video game soundtracks for you guys, to hopefully bring about some major nostalgia and help you make the best weekend playlist this side of the Mississippi.

5. NBA Street Volume 2
Starting off with a bit of a wild card here, but this soundtrack was dope (pardon my language). But if you did play this game, you know how awesome it was when you hit start and you heard the saxophone riff for "They Reminisce Over You" come on. Just put you in the right mood for the game. A wise man named Michael Scott did say after all, "Basketball is like jazz." The whole soundtrack can be found here.

Top Two Songs:
Live On Stage - Diolated Peoples
They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y) - Pete Rock and C.L. Smooth

4. Madden 2004
I originally thought this was gonna be higher on the list, but as it turns out the top 3 were able to knock the dog fighting Michael Vick down a peg or two. Loved firing up the PS2 and hearing Blink 182 scream at me on the welcome screen. It certainly got me "feeling this" whatever "this" was. Full soundtrack here.

Top Two Songs:
Feeling This - Blink 182

Way Away - Yellowcard

What a use of electric violin

3. Madden 05
Madden comin' in hot with back to back years! This soundtrack was real solid, in fact it was half the reason I felt the need to buy it. Still in the pre-pubescent years when you actually enjoyed your life and liked bands like Green Day (admit it, we all did). Personally, Green Day was my favorite band for years, and American Idiot doesn't even crack the top 2 best songs for this soundtrack, so that should tell you how solid it is. Full soundtrack here.

Top Two Songs:
Take Me Out - Franz Ferdinand

Tear It Up - Yung Wun feat. DMX, Lil' Flip & David Banner

2. MVP Baseball 2005
I know what you're thinking, WHAT A SHOCK! and rightfully so. This game could easily be number one, and really the top two games on this list are more like a 1 and 1a situation, but you gotta make decisions in life and I put MVP 05 at number 2. Every song in this game is good, and there's nothing like setting up a 30 year long dynasty with your buddies to the sound of Tessie by Dropkick Murphys in the background. Full soundtrack here.

Top Two Songs:
Tessie - Dropkick Murphys

Funny Little Feeling - Rock N Roll Soldiers

1. NCAA Football 2006
A truly unbelievable game and soundtrack coming in at number one. A lot of people forget how good this game is and how awesome the soundtrack is. A lot of NCAA games just played fight songs up until this point, but this game flipped the soundtrack game on it's head. This game had 15 tracks and not a single one was bad. It was tough to knock MVP down, but this is just about the only game that could. Full soundtrack found here.

Top Two Songs:
Out All Night - The Pietasters

Jeff Wears Birkenstocks? - NOFX

So there it is, the best sport video game soundtracks that ever were.

PS - How about Madden with Michael Vick and Ray Lewis on the cover back to back. A dog killer on the former and an accomplice to murder on the latter. EA Sports sure knows how to pick 'em!

PPS - I decided not to put any of the Tony Hawk games on here. Wouldn't have been fair to the other games.
