I'm just as confused as you are about the Celtics and their success early in the season. The Eastern Conference is about as brutal as it comes in terms of half of a professional league. I really can't remember any conference looking this bad in any sport, not just the NBA. Tonight's win against the Minnesota Timberwolves put the C's at 12-14 this year, which is good enough to slide them into 7th 8th in the eastern conference, right? Wrong, the Celtics are two games below .500 and they're currently 4th in the eastern conference. To put this into perspective, the Minnesota Timberwolves's 12-13 record has them at 11th in the Western Conference, 3 spots out of the playoff race.
Regardless of how top heavy the East is, the Celtics gave another example of them being able to play with good teams. The Timberwolves are a solid squad, and even though they were without Kevin Martin, their shooting guard and one of their best players, who sat out the game with a sore left knee (only a valid excuse in the NBA), they still had a healthy Kevin Love. Love dropped in 27 points and secured 14 rebounds in 36 minutes. Nikola Pekovic also added 13 points and 7 boards. These numbers allowed the T Wolves to keep it close, but they didn't play well enough to counter the chemistry shown by the Celtics tonight.
Jared Sullinger stepped up again tonight, posting a double double with 24 and 10. He also hit a clutch 3 pointer with a little more than a minute left to put his team up by four. Jordan Crawford and Avery Bradley also scored in the double digits, with 15 and 19 respectively.
